My "Me Manifesto"

My "Me Manifesto"

What a great experience this morning. Not only thinking about what I believe about learning and teaching but playing with some technology I have not used much. Goal #1 complete and its given me a new enthusiams and perspective for some up coming educational challenges.

The 30 Goals Challenge 2012

I came across the #30Goals challenge while scrolling through Twitter. After reading about it, see the results of others already this year and in the past two years I have decided to participate. This is a great way to tangibly document my learning and sharing in the new year.
If you would like to join me in this challenge the first one was this week, so I am not behind. Here is the link to the information.

This also helps me with my personal goal which is to discipline myself enough to regularly post on my blog. Here I go!

Using what we learn

I come to these conferences, and I am reminded again of why I got into teaching and why I am putting myself through the rigorous experience of grad school to become a principal. I want to make changes in education.

I know there are some in education who are content with the status quo, but I can't believe that is the majority. If there are large numbers who know how it should be done, who are willing to make the necessary changes, do the incredibly difficult to work to make those changes, take the risks that always come with change then why isn't it happening?

When will I be willing to step out there and say, its time for a change? Who will be willing to take that stand with me? How will that work?

Just Scratching the Surface

It's amazing when you look at all we know but all there is still to learn. At the Leadership Academy there has been a new push to increase personal professional learning by networking through the Internet. When you begin to really explore the ways to improve your own learning and the learning of students the various ways are almost overwhelming. Just when you think you have it mastered something new appears. How am I preparing my students to continue to learn and the speed that will be required to be successful? How am I maintaining my levels of learning to stay ahead or even get ahead of my students?

Leadership Academy

This is my 10th individual session of the Arkansas leadership Academy. I am always amazed at how my learning increases just being part of this organization. So far today all we have done is prepare for meetings and reconnect with our participants and yet my learning as already begun. I enjoy working with adult learners....especially those who want to make a difference in the lives of students. If everyone had the chance to experience this type of environment I wonder how much better our schools would be?!?

Learning to relax

After spending a few days away from everything with my husband, I realize there is an art to relaxing and it is an art I still need to practice. I get so wrapped up in being the mom, wife, teacher, student, daughter, friend.....and everything else that I forget about me. I have learned that I need to change the way I work. I tend to focus on one thing at a time, but to the exclusion. Of everything else. My goal is to figure out a way to do smaller amounts of things each day so that noting requires mY absolute attention. We will see how it goes.

Technology fun

Learning something new, especially when it involves new technology is so much fun. I recently acquired an iPad and I have had a blast learning all the tricks and all the cool things it wlll do. I am anticipating all the ways i can incorporate it into my learning experiences for this upcoming school year, not only for me but also for my students. How cool would it be to be able to show a power point to two or three students and make it specific to their learning needs?! I think it will also be good for begin on the go with my intership activities! Yet another reason I am excited about the new school year. It's good to be looking forward to going to work again, its been a while since I felt that way.
